Big beautiful tropical prints, pineapple accessories, and lush big leafed greenery are “in”. If you are not so bold in your taste, small botanical sketches on fabric will give a more tailored urban look. African mudcloth fabric with primitive patterns will create a resort look as if the prints were artisan made.

Marble, terrazzo, and quartz are in style and herringbone patterns add texture and visual interest. Think “touchy-feely”. Textures like rattan, wicker, and velvet add tactile interest this year. Bamboo mats, rattan, macramé and fringe continue that theme.

Furniture is going back to simple lines with a retro look, dark woods and bling like metallic handles and/or legs, and use of brass or rose gold trim.  Don’t be afraid to mix your metal accents.

Sometimes ceilings are being spotlighted with bold paint or wallpaper and rather than lots of small artwork hanging on your walls, designers are going for large statement pieces of art with moody or vivid colors.  And speaking of color, a boldly painted front door welcomes you and your guests and gives a hint of what is to come inside your home.

Little things mean a lot

Does that mean you rush out and redo what you have? Absolutely not! Next year the styles will be different. Using a few hot new ideas will add fresh sparkle and not make too much of a dent in your budget. If you keep your furniture neutral, designed to be simple enough to never go out of style, every season you can refresh your home with some fun. Consider inexpensive ideas like pillows, art, lighting, etc. If you keep it personal and meaningful, little touches will make your house a home.
